i'm back

EXAMS ARE OVER!!!! yes, my A2 exams are finally over.... after one and a half years at TARC, my tenure there is finally over.... ah, the joy and the relief.... oh well, i'm not quite ready to open the champagne yet, not till after my results that is....

so i guess i'll be posting more often since my exams are over... however, i dont think i have the mood to write anything interesting or of worth in the next few days.... maybe after i come back from my cousin's wedding in australia.... haha....

the good thing bout finishing your exams is obvious, no more studying, no more slugging it out till late, no more last minute madness.... although that is only temporary.... on the flipside, having no reason to go back to college makes meeting ones college frens rather difficult.... i have frens from all over malaysia... even those who stay "near" kl are spread out.... cheras, setapak, ampang, subang, shah alam...... to get all together is truly difficult.... i guess there is always a chance i'll bump into them again.... someday...

i will be taking a short break and be lazy for one month i guess... in the new year, i think i'd most probably be working... come to think of it, if i DONT work, i'll be bored to death.... hopefully i'd get an interesting job, which isnt too boring.... lets just hope...

now i guess its time to reconnect with some of my frens which i have partly ignored cuz of exams.... ah, if you are one of them, sorry.... its just that a levels takes alot outta you.... esp further math...

that would be all for now.... till next time.

rare post.

the title says all.... this is one of the few rare post here for the time being..... i'm pretty much too busy at the moment.... there is so much to do.... argh.... trials are over, which means the real thing is not too far away.... oct 19 to be exact.... ends early though.... nov 16... i WILL update consistently AFTER my exams.... but for now, i'm caught up in the world of exams..... i hope i come out of this alive(big exaggeration)....

to anybody who cares, selamat hari raya....

ciao. till after my exams......

back for a short one....

i've been gone quite long i guess so here is a post to indicate i'm still alive...

i've been REALLY bz lately, and i fell sick... nope, its NOT H1N1 - a question which is bound to be asked.... A2 is tough.... there is alot to study, i mean ALOT.... lessons are interesting, but revising and studying for exams is no mean feat.... i love learning, not studying....

for all those who took A2 or AS in june, D-Day is 2mr.... or if u read this late, its alredi over... which means i'm currently relieved, or depressed and stressed.... it depends on the results 2mr.... aih....

time is NOT my best fren right now.... it juz seems to fly when i need it, and go slow when i want it to fly.... hmm.... i think EVERYBODY gets the same feeling some phase of life.... and they said 24 hrs a day is constant....

life will be even more hectic very soon.... the frequency of posts will drastically drop.... i hope it wont be so but well, life's like that.... hopefully if i have the time i'll do a proper one.... haha.... part 2 is still in progress(chemistry one).... so i guess thats at least ONE post i'll be producing in the near future.... till then.... out.

little bit of chemistry (part 1)...

hmm.... for those who dont know chem, this post might seem a bit confusing, but there is a hidden meaning behind it.... juz thought of it when i couldnt sleep one night.... haha.... it might seem lame, but just see the parallel....

few people i know have characteristics that can be modelled by certain chemical compounds or elements.... haha, juz check this out and compare....

Water(H20)- Joy.
Although common and taken for granted, water is a very important fluid. it has a very high specific heat capacity, enabling it to absorb much heat. this causes it to be a very good cooling agent. water is also a universal solvent, being able to form strong hydrogen bonds with certain compounds, and electrostatic attraction with others.

Nitrogen Gas(N2) - Xian
Nitrogen gas is ever abundant. It is a highly stable gas which does not react under normal conditions. This is due to the strong triple bond it forms with itself, requiring a large amount of energy to break. However, nitrogen can react under extreme conditions, forming compounds which are commonly made into explosives. Nitrogen is also very essential to the living organisms, and thus sustains life.

Oxygen Gas(O2) - Rachel
The importance of oxygen is unquestionable. It is requried to sustain life. Oxygen itself does not combust, but supports combustion. It is abundant and is able to form compounds with other elements. The addition of oxygen to any compound is called oxidation. In this process, the oxidation number of another element tends to increase.

Sodium(Na) - Emily
Sodium metal is highly reactive, it belongs to Group 1 of the periodic table. Sodium loses its electron easily to form an ion. This ionic state of sodium enables it to carry charge, thus allowing the compound to conduct electricity. This is only true if sodium is dissolved in water(refer to above). Sodium metal by itself is highly explosive even if its size is small.

Potassium(K) - Elaine
The characteristics of potassium is almost the same as that of sodium. It is however a bigger atom and more electropositive. This means its tendency to lose an electron is higher. Potassium and sodium are in the same Group in the periodic table, so their characteristics are highly simillar. It is no wonder sodium and potassium are commonly mentioned together.

end of part 1...
part 2 will contain the next few ppl on my list, namely the remaining memnbers of cy3, including myself(if i can think of any)....
till next time ciao.

1st week of classes....

so my 1st week back to college for classes.... its been rather tiresome, finishing late almost everyday.... but well, thats life.... you don't always get what you want....

anyway, TarC now is fully loaded.... at MAXIMUM capacity.... when i say its FULL i mean its FULL.... never have i seen so many people in canteens, computer labs, or even our "yum-yum park" before.... man, there are so many people in the college i wish half of them would just dissapear.... haha.... oh well....

1st thing we were greated with when we came for class is that we'll have another test in bout 3 weeks time (or less).... oh great.... even more tests.... worse still, i've realised that A2 is just 4 months away.... thats VERY soon.... i dont even remember most of my A2 stuff....

argh, lets do away with the depressing stuff for a while and get on to happier things....

i went for my math lecturers wedding on sunday.... haha.... CONGRATS MISS CHIN!! hmm.... it was a memorable event... haha.... besides that, i just yest a very kind soul offered me two tix to see MU play here.... HAHA.... so I'M GOING TO SEE MAN U!!!!! i'm going with my fren ler of course.... i wanted to go but well, tix were sold out real fast.... hmm.... and yes this is my first time watching a live football game.... just cant wait...

right, nothing much to say anymore.... so thats all for now.... ciao...

AS is gone, A2 is coming..... the perilious task of study has just begun....
i have long been parted from a peaceful nights sleep....
now would be a good reunion...

10-day hiatus....

i'm on a 10 day break, from school, exams, everything.... haha.... my next paper is on the 8th of june.... so i guess i'll try to use this 10 days productively?

hmm... went for the champs league final game yest(or rather this morn) with diyan and some college frens.... although Man U lost, i was truly entertained.... Barca really deserved the cup as they played superb... oh well Barca is my fav spanish club, so i dont really care which way the result went....

currently feeling very very sleepy, yet am unable to fall asleep.... i had this for few days now(in the hostel mainly)... hopefully my own bed will enable me to get my much needed peaceful slumber.... that reminds me, gotta go catch up on sleep debt.... one debt i wanna pay FAST!!!

an update...

its been a while since my last update so i fugured i would do so...

things have been rather hectic in my life recently, keeping up with A2 and AS syllabuses at the same time is NOT something that is easy.... this part is the crucial part of my A-Levels though... if i dont revise and concentrate on A2, i'll be dead in AS... if i revise only on AS and start skipping my A2 classes, i'll be in even worse trouble.... so see my prob? guess not...

the past few weeks have been ok i guess.... went back to ipoh for a visit, to eat the good food, and to relax.... bought some stuff, met up with some ppl, and basically had a good Labour Day's rest.... i kinda miss ipoh, but i'm starting to prefer kl.... i love living in ipoh, but nowadays it just seems so monotonous.... its a very relaxxing life, which i like, but which i dont want to have right now.....

AS exams start soon, VERY soon.... on the 40th aniversary of the race riots - 13th May....
the next paper would be on the 19th then 20th... then another 'week' break, and resumes on the 26th and 27th.... finally the last three days are on the 8,9, and 10th of june... then its FREEDOM? I wish... it would be back to A2 studyin...

hmm.... since i have bout 10 days off after my paper on the 27th, i guess i'll treat myself to the Champions' League final.... its on the 27th, means 28th morn local time.... two of my fav clubs are playin... no matter which way the result goes, i'm happy...

i dont think i'll have any more updates till maybe AFTER my exams, or if i'm in the mood, during(highly doubt it).... thats all for now...

still alive...

xian, you asked for it....

fine i'm still alive.... this is what i've been doing for the past week/weeks.... STUDYING.... i dont like it, but well i gues i can say i'm a much more hardworking guy than i used to be.... HAHA.... and thats nothing compared to my classmates...

so, what did go on during my long absence from the blogging world? i turned 19, my last year of being a "teen"... twenty has not TEEN in it see... ok, that was lame.... other than that i was busy getting ready for my mid-course exams.... cant do badly.... money depends on it(scholarship)....

hmm... have been watching House M.D. lately.... finished seasons 1, and 3.... now going thru season 4.... season 2 will be last.... haha.... dont ask why i'm not watching in order....

AS exams are coming up real soon.... in about a months time.... the thing bout AS is, we dont have STUDY BREAKS or stuff like that.... college goes on as usual.... we juz get exempted from college on the day we have exams.... so i guess this blog will be even more barren and desolate when that time comes....

been thinking of what Unis i wanna apply to.... i dont think i'll post them here, some of them might be a little shocking... haha... everyone wants to dream big....

i guess when i'm in the mood, and out of exams, i will be giving another "lecture" on some morbid subject which i feel strongly about at the time of my writing that post....

ok, i'm done...

p/s. i juz missed a week's worth of news.... i did not even know we had a new PM... good luck to him...

Friday, March 13, 2009

hols are here...

its break time.... but guess what... i STILL gotta study... mid-course/trials coming up REAL soon.... so i guess its nose to the grindstone...

birthday is also coming up... i wonder....

nothing much to say right now... too busy doing lots of stuff... will update when i actually have time...

education rant....

Education: a debt due from present to future generations.
George Peabody

alright.... its time again for another babbling session.... this time on the nation's education system... have been discussing alot about this while in GP class and i thought i'd share my views.... well i think i'm mostly stating the obvious flaws, which everybody knows but nobody does anything bout them...

firstly, there is the curriculum... hmm, what is there to say, it is ineffective... how do u explain a 17A student failing an entrance exam for a well known university.... it just proves that what we study is just for studying's sake... that is NOT the purpose of education... examples would be of course moral, history, and so on and so forth... well, i fell that so much more can be done to improve this big flaw....

a simple example would be by implementing community service as a compulsory activity instead of moral... what use is blatant memorisation of definitions of moral values when we dont practice them... students get the impression that the meaning of the values are more important than the values itself... we are humans, not robots which need programming... let the students PRACTICE what we are supposed to be taught.... going to orphanages, old folks' homes and the like will help students learn more through experience than they will ever learn in the classroom...

hands-on experience is absolutely vital.... watching an experiment is beneficial, but you have to actually DO it to experience it in full... this will then help you remember and understand the aim and purpose of the experiment... sadly, there are teachers who do not allow students to actually do experiments on their own... or some schools do not even have the facilities to enable hands-on learning to be conducted effectively.... a school as an effective centre for learning MUST have all these facilities... else, it would be redudant.... its almost like a petrol station with no petrol pumps...

as for the teachers, nothing much can be done to them now... why? they are "civil servants" who normally have 100% job security.... putting it in easier terms, they cant be sacked.... so, there are quite a number who are not adequately trained, or just plain lazy.... i myself have come across such teachers.... and what is the WORST thing that can happen to them even after complaints by 100% of students? they get transferred to other schools and bring misery to that new school... in my opinion, teachers should be assessed based on feedback from students, and if necessary, sent for extra training.... courses and such should be very much helpful.... if the teacher is really really bad, i'm sorry but for the sake of the next generation, the teacher has to go....

a teacher has a strong influence on his or her students.... a teacher can make a student love or hate a subject.... this is absolutely true.... having rubbish teachers tend to make students hate a particular subject even though the student might have great interest in it in the past.... good teachers are always needed....

i wont elaborate much on the next point cuz it would just make this post REALLY long.... i think those who know me well would have heard this THOUSANDS of times.... abolish the quota system and use fully merit based systems.... enuf said...

politicians are always put in charge of education departments.... WHY???? why aren't EXPERTS put in charge of the most important thing you can give the next generation.... i dont care if you put politicians in charge of finances, enviroment, roads or even defence.... but EDUCATION? what do they know about education.... politicians mainly want to pander to the public's opinion without actually thinking of the good of the country.... well, most of the time anyway....

how do we solve this staggering problem of big mouthed politicians with their disregard of using their brains? simple, take education out of their hands and put in into hands of the EXPERTS.... set up an INDEPENDANT commision of education to monitor the system within the country... sadly, i dont think the day will come when this will be a reality.... in politics, when you get power, you NEVER want to give it up....

selective education should also be a very good way of helping students.... what i mean by that is that students can choose WHAT they want to study and WHEN they want to study that particular subject... education should be fun... i remember enjoying kindergarten.... it was fun... there were games and fun activities.... why do people always have the foolish notion that the older you grow, the more serious you get? that is so wrong.... EVERYBODY loves to have fun.... if someone enjoys something, don't you think they will remember it? the same goes for education.... if students LOVE what they study, they will DEFINATELY be able to remember and recall what they are supposed to be learning.... they should be given freedom of choosing their own education instead of FORCING something on them.... of course some may argue that young kids dont know what is best for them.... well i agree.... what i said in the last paragraph applies to students of a higher level... lets say 15 yrs and above.... the current system of either having arts or science is not "free enough" a course.... it should be more flexible and more accomodating to students and teachers alike.... the process of learning should be like having fun at a playground, not locked up in a prison....

i have lots more to say on the subject but most of what i want to say is best left unsaid.... haha.... i think some of you will get what i mean.... if you dont, too bad... i belive that education in this country can be greatly improved.... what we need is someone with the guts to do it...

just some food for thought.....

argh...

exams will be coming up pretty soon... so studying is gonna be a habit i have to aquire.... hopefully...

things have been a bit boring as of late... well, not BORING but just normal... life's cycle goes on... wake up, go to class, come back, sleep, dinner, study, sleep... and the cycle continues.... i forsee major stress lying ahead...

red time of the year.

cny is coming up. cant say i'm looking forward to it. cant say i dont bother. i guess i'm just neutral. hopefully something good will happen during cny.

2009 has been a great year so far. God has REALLY blessed my life. i'm grateful. truly grateful. i will keep up this start to my year. i will continue to work constantly. i will be consistent.

i guess i have no inspiration to blog this past few days. i guess blogging has come gone down few levels in my priority list. i dont really have much of importance to say.

i guess i'm out. i hope to have more to update about after cny. hopefully.

an update.

its 2009. just finished a tiring week back at college. i have a new roommate. new lecturer. and some pretty interesting new stuff to study. not much has happened since then. got my exam results back and they were surprisingly good. All glory to God. I seriously think it was by His grace i got what i did. wont be explaining much bout that here.

this semester looks like a very tiring semester. firstly i have ALL my classes starting at 8. next i have alot of exams and tests crammed into a short span of time. and i also have a massive amount of topics to cover. good luck to me.

thats all. ciao.
