breakthrough

the world has been shaken up by the nov 4th elections. many world leaders congratulated Obama on his victory to become the first "black" President of USA. hmm.... i've been thinking bout this concept of a "minority" group leading a nation. being part of a "minority" group myself, i strongly support the notion that this country can also be led by someone of a "minority" group.

this brings me to something everyone in this country wants to avoid talking about. the subject of racial divide. i am a person who knows no race. to me, everyone belongs to the same race - the human race. why then does racial issues always cause a big stir everywhere?

the fault lies within ALL parties, the ppl who discriminate, and the overly sensitive people. i just dont get some ppl. WHY DO YOU THINK UR SO MUCH BETTER THAN OTHERS JUST BECAUSE UR FROM A "SUPERIOR RACE". why do ppl still consider a race to be superior compared to others? history perhaps? natural ability? or most probably an overly BIG racial pride. there is nothing wrong in being proud of who you are, or your history, or even ur ethnic cultures. the problem comes when ppl think they are better than others.

and what about those who are overly sensitive? i just dont get this type of ppl, and i'm REALLY irritated by them. just because you were taken advantage of in the past DOES NOT mean you can turn almost any innocent statement or action into a racist act. some ppl just dont get what it means by not being a racist. to me, it means not thinking you are far greater than another, and not thinking that EVERYONE is picking on you. come on, some ppl have much better things to do than to pick on others of different race.

i have great many frens of different ethnic backgrounds, all of us dont care what race we are, or what skin colour we have, or even what customs we have. we just define ourselves by our character and personality. when we hang out, we can even poke fun at each others ethnic background and still not consider it a racist statement. this is because we know deep inside that we are all equal. i hope the world can one day be as such.

for this to happen, mindsets have to be RESET. the best way to start is to start young. children should be sent to multi-racial schools. education should be standardised so that none will have a higher than normal concentration of students of a particular race. i learnt that the best way to demolish the racial barrier is to MIX every type of race together. FORCE them to learn young, FORCE them to mix with people other than their own. this will ensure a better and more open generation.

special privelages given to certain races should be stripped too. privellages and aid should be given on a merit basis, NOT on what ethnic group you belong to. having a quota system seriously damages racial ties. we need to have a completely fair system to ensure no special treatment is given to anyone of any race.

simple as they may seem, these actions will most probably never be taken. few people have the courage to stand up for such issues nowadays. even when brought up, these issues are IMMEDIATELY deemed "sensitive" and are shelved. the thing i dont get is, WHY DO PEOPLE LIKE DO DEEM IMPORTANT SUBJECTS, SENSITIVE? it is another way of saying i'm just going to ignore your views. this really reflects on the maturity of a certain society.

i sincerely hope that through the election of Obama, the world will open its eyes to the fundamental flaws it has in its society.
